Death Blamed on Cardiac Arrest

The victim, identified as Harris Wolobah, died on September 1, 2023, after consuming the chip, which is marketed as one of the world's spiciest foods. An autopsy revealed that the 10th grader from Worcester succumbed to cardiac arrest due to excessive capsaicin, the compound that gives chili peppers their heat.

The chip's manufacturer, Paqui, a subsidiary of the Hershey Co., has since discontinued the One Chip Challenge and removed it from their website.
